13 collisions on the 401 yesterday have the OPP issuing cautions

OPPThe Chatham-Kent OPP were kept very busy January 16, starting just after 3 p.m., until just before 2 a.m., responding to as many as 13 motor vehicle collisions along the 401 between Queens Line and Duart Road. Two of the collisions investigated involved charges.

One occurred just after 6 p.m., on January 16, when Chatham-Kent OPP officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a Ford vehicle traveling westbound on the 401 near Mull Road. The vehicle lost control and came to rest in the centre median. A roadside investigation revealed that a child passenger in the vehicle was not properly secured. The driver, 27-year-old Samar Abboud, from Windsor, has been charged with failing to ensure a child is secured.

The second incident occurred just after 8 p.m., on January 16, when the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on the 401 near Communication Road. The collision occurred when a Ford vehicle traveling westbound lost control, struck a post and came to rest in the north ditch. The 29-year-old driver, Mohamad Makkawi, from Windsor, has been charged with careless driving.

No injuries were reported in any of the collisions.

The OPP say these collisions are preventable and with conditions being slippery they are cautioning drivers to slow down and leave extra space between other vehicles.

The OPP are also asking the public to be cautious as emergency crews are working at removing vehicles from the ditch along the highway.
