Teen who hurt her friends in accident is charged

s police 9A teenager who hurt four friends in an accident this summer has been charged by police.

On August 18, shortly after 1 a.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Goodreau Line in Romney Township. The 19-year-old driver from Lighthouse Cove, called 911 to ask for medical assistance as she not only was she injured, but also all four of her passengers. The passengers ranged in age from 18-22 and were all Tilbury residents.

Three occupants were transported to Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor while the other two were transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention. All have since been released. Investigation revealed that the driver was travelling eastbound on Goodreau Line when she lost control of her Ford F-150 truck. The truck left the roadway and travelled through a ditch causing about $5000 damage to the vehicle.

Yesterday afternoon, police arrested and charged the driver with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm
  • Contravening a condition for novice drivers
  • Young driver, blood alcohol count above zero

She was released with conditions pending a future court date of January 29, 2014.
