Drunk driver was more than 2X over the limit before crashing

Driving while drunk didn’t work out for a 20-year-old Belle River man this morning, according to police.

Police responded to a single vehicle accident at Baldoon Road and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham around 2 a.m. this morning. The vehicle hit a hydro pole, leaving about $5000 of damage to the vehicle. When police spoke with the driver they realized the driver was drunk. Breath tests at police headquarters confirmed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

He was charged with impaired driving.
