The fatal accident on Queens Line this morning is still under investigation and the Chatham-Kent police are making an appeal for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.
The head-on collision claimed the life of a 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by a coroner. His family has requested his name go unpublished.
A pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer collided, head-on, and the two vehicles came to rest off the roadway. The pick-up truck had left its’ lane and was travelling westbound, in the eastbound lane of the roadway, at the time of the collision. The pick-up truck caught fire and although passers-by stopped to assist they were unable to free the driver from the truck. Chatham-Kent fire trucks put out the fire.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Public General Hospital, in Chatham, by ambulance, and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Queens Line was closed until 7 p.m. before it re-opened.
Witnesses are asked to contact constable Todd Trahan at 519-355-1092.
