Woman charged for stealing $23 worth of candy

A 23-year-old Chatham woman is facing two charges after stealing candy from a store.

The Chatham-Kent police say Vanessa Vandeven, of Barthe Street, was arrested at 12:30 this morning on Third Street, following an investigation into the theft. On September 30 two women were spotted acting very suspiciously in a Grand Avenue store. An employee realized the woman had placed candy in her purse and left the store without paying.

Vandeven has been charged with theft and possession of stolen goods. She was released from custody with a court date.
