Speeders find opportunity due to construction zone

With St. Clair Street in Chatham now under construction, the Chatham-Kent police say they received complaints of speeding vehicles on alternate streets as motorists try to avoid the area.

Yesterday police set-up a radar trap on Victoria Avenue and in just a couple of hours they issued five speeding tickets.

Police say they caught drivers going as fast as 78 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.

The section of St. Clair Street that is under construction is a 50 km/h zone even when not under construction.
