Police on the lookout for suspect in assault case

A Chatham man faked out a suspect by pretending to leave his home and go to work and then returned to see the suspect near his backyard, say the Chatham-Kent police. The unusual sequence of events happened yesterday at about 6:30 a.m.

According to police, a local resident on Grande Avenue East saw a suspicious man walking repeatedly past his house while preparing for work. The suspect is a male, wearing a black hoody and green track pants. The concerned resident drove around the block and returned to his home and once he saw the suspect near his backyard he rolled down his window and asked what the suspect was doing there. The suspect walked around to the driver’s side, opened the door and punched the driver in the face. The driver closed his door and drove away and did not seek medical attention.

The suspect’s description: white, male with a stocky build, about 5′ 8″ tall, 30 to 35-years-old with facial hair on the side of his face.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
