Failing to stop for the police ends in arrest

A man who took off after police tried to stop him landed himself in police custody last night.

The Chatham-Kent police were investigating a theft complaint just after 7 p.m. at a St. Clair Street business. Police were given a description of the suspect and at 10:30 p.m. they saw a man on a bike who fit the description on Victoria Avenue.

Police asked the man to stop and he refused. In trying to get away he made a quick turn into a backyard. Police caught up with him after a foot pursuit ended at Grand Avenue and Taylor Street.

Police realized that the man was  bound by conditions to live at a specific address in Chatham and that he was no longer living at that address.

The 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to stop and failing to comply. He was held for a bail hearing.
