ARTspace hosts exhibit on the battle of the thames

Art Spaceby Daniel Swan

The Battle of the Thames may be over but the celebrations continue. ARTspace is hosting an exhibit called ‘War Along The Thames 1813′. It features thought-provoking photography of war re-enactors taken by local photographer Eric Shaw. The photos are visual works of art that chronicle the Battle of the Thames that has important local connections.

Eric Shaw is a local re-enactor, military historian and lecturer who has documented images of 1812 re-enactors for the past six years. He tries to capture the individuals who he feels match most people’s perceptions of what people looked like in 1812.

“These portraits are meant to put flesh to the bare bones of the history you read about everyday. There are some things that are best conveyed through art”, Eric said.

The exhibit runs from October 2 to November 9. More information can be found online.
