Retired Chatham teacher charged with historical sexual assaults on students

police carThe Chatham-Kent police have arrested a retired male teacher for historical sexual offences involving school aged male children.

The allegations were reported to police earlier this month and following an investigation, members of the major crime unit arrested the suspect this week.

Jim Lekavy, 67-years-old, of Chatham, has been charged with four counts of indecent assault on a male, three counts of sexual assault and one count of buggery dating back to the early 1980’s. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date of September 27.

Lekavy was employed as an elementary school teacher for 39 years and taught at Tilbury Area Public School, Romney Central Public School and Wheatley Public School.
