Chatham man attempts to steal security system

On Friday September 27, at about 7:45 p.m., Wal-Mart store security saw a man acting suspiciously in the electronics department. Security saw him select a security system from the display and hide the item in his backpack. The man left the store without paying for the item. Store security stopped the male and placed him under arrest and police were called.

Constable Charbonneau of the Chatham-Kent Police attended and upon searching the accused, located brass knuckles, a prohibited weapon. Fields also had a recognizance of bail not to carry any weapons.

David Edward Fields, 34, resident of Chatham was charged with theft and possession of stolen goods. He was also charged with breaching his release conditions and possession of a prohibited weapon. Fields was held for a bail hearing.
