It’s Caturday!
CK-CAT UPDATE
Well, it has been an exciting time, and more to come.
There was a meeting recently of the Chatham-Kent Community Action Team (CK-CAT), with most of the “regulars” attending. Reports from various members included :
- 154 feral cats have been spayed or neutered, from various colonies throughout Chatham-Kent. Money from a grant from PetSmart’s charitable organisation was used to cover the costs. Most of the colonies that have been addressed to date have one or two cats that still need to be done. There are enough funds remaining for this.
- We will be re-applying for further funding from PetSmart in the near future to keep this initiative going.
- A clinic that will do paediatric spay/neuter (2 months and 2 lbs to qualify) has been identified, and the cost is very reasonable. So far, no local vets offer this service.
- Contact has been made with the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society low-cost high-volume spay/neuter clinic.
- a report will be made in September to Council; support is always welcome, and if you would like to be notified of the date by e-mail, please contact Nancy (her contact info is at the bottom of the page).
- Facebook page and website should be up and running this week, and will have more up-to-the minute information than this column (links will be at the bottom of the page; if they are not working yet, check back again in a few days).
- There are about 8 to 12 people on the committee, and new members would be made welcome. If you are interested in helping, please contact Nancy (her contact info is at the bottom of the page.
This is a short column, but please keep following for news about the new cat rescue in Chatham-Kent, The Place for Cats.
