Woman dies after being pulled from submerged car

A woman has died after her car was found submerged in water in Dover Township early Sunday morning.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., Chatham-Kent police, fire and EMS were dispatched for a reported vehicle submerged in a water filled ditch on Town Line Road.

Police arrived to find a car upside down in the ditch with only the wheels showing. Officers attempted to free the woman but were unable to do so.

Chatham-Kent firefighters from station 4 in Dover responded, along with the dive team from stations 1 and 3. Using one of their fire trucks, Dover firefighters were able to pull the car out of the ditch and free the trapped woman.

With paramedics on scene CPR was performed at which point she was transported to hospital in Chatham where the 55-year-old woman was pronounced deceased.

Chatham-Kent police say that the investigation is continuing, and anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact Constable Todd Trahan of the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Management Unit at 519-355-1092.
