Chatham-Kent by-law enforcement officers are visiting residents throughout Chatham-Kent during June and July to ensure that all dogs have a 2013 municipal dog tag.
Benefits of Dog Registration:
Municipal dog registration helps reunite owners with their pet should the dog stray away from home. Most dogs reunited with their owners are identified with tags or other identifying features, reinforcing the advantage for owners who register their dogs. The revenue collected from the sale of dog tags helps to support the municipality’s dog control program.
Dog Registration Costs and Fines
Municipal By-law No.176-2005 requires that all dog owners get municipal dog tags for their dogs by March 1 of each year. Residents who have received a warning and neglect to buy 2013 dog tags will risk being fined. Residents who have not yet purchased a 2013 municipal dog tag may still do so by visiting the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre or any other municipal centre within Chatham-Kent, or over the phone by calling 519-360-1998. Residents should be aware that they will be charged an extra $10 late fee, as they are purchasing after the March 1 deadline. Dog owners risk being fined $240 for failing to buy a tag.
