The new PS4 is expected to be revealed at 6 p.m. tonight.

Gamers around the world are setting their alarm clocks to 6 p.m. EST today, as Sony is ready to announce the highly anticipated Playstation 4.

The Playstation Meeting, at the elaborate Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, may include a complete reveal of Sony’s next generation gaming console. The price of a PS3 is expected to drop with the announcement. The PS3 was released in November 2006, so this is the first new console from Sony in more than six years.

Rumours run rampant as to what might be in the new machine.Streaming games live over the internet is on the wish list for users. USB 3.0 ports are expected, but talk of an AMD chip, a solid state hard drive, a price tag of $429 or $529, user controls could allow for a pad/smart phone or Playstation Vita or a DVR and a touchpad on the Dual Shock controller are all speculation until the announcement.

Game console announcements are notorious for heaping praise, that is often questionable, on the new home entertainment packages. The over hype has not cooled interest by fans in the past, so expect more of that tonight.

The last time that the next generation game consoles were unleashed, Sony was slower than Microsoft by 15 months. This time Sony wants to be first out of the gate. A new Microsoft XBOX, the 720, is expected later this year.
