Shae-Lynn Bourne to skate in Ridgetown

Local skaters in Ridgetown have been working hard on their skating skills all season and practicing routines for the upcoming annual ice carnival. The excitement level has just risen considerably as the club has confirmed that Chatham-Kent native and Canadian figure skating hall of famer Shae-Lynn Bourne has agreed to perform during their show.

Carnival director, Chris Bourne along with volunteers from the Ridgetown Figure Skating Club have been busy selecting music, costumes and choreographing routines to take the audience on a cruise around the world to ports including Africa, Paris, Abu Dahbi, Hawaii  in the upcoming “All Aboard” themed skating carnival.

Shae-Lynn Bourne will be gracing the Ridgetown community and inspiring local skaters with her international skill on Sunday, February 17 at the East Kent Memorial Arena in Ridgetown. Show time is 1:30 p.m. Bourne has performed at three Olympics.

Deb Veccia, Ridgetown Figure Skating Club’s co-president, said “As a small club, the board of director’s goal is to deliver a top-notch fun-filled program to our local youth and still manage to make ends meet. The annual carnival is our major event to highlight and celebrate the skills the children have learned. Having Shae-Lynn attend the carnival is an honour to the volunteers, children and parents. This is the first time a skater of such international and olympic caliber has participated in the skating carnival in the organization’s history.”

Tickets are available from any of the Ridgetown Figure Skating Club’s members and at Mittons Jewellers’ in Ridgetown.
