Drunk arrested for his own safety

A man was arrested for being drunk in public on Tuesday.

Just after 10:00 p.m. police went to a disturbance call on Flemingo Street in Blenheim. When they arrived they saw a man so drunk that he was unable to care for himself.

He was arrested for his own safety.

The 26-year-old Blenheim man was transported to police headquarters where he was held in custody until sober.

He has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place.
