Yesterday morning, just before 8:00 a.m. police responded to a home in Dover Township were an unwanted man was on a property. Upon arrival, officers saw the man sitting inside his vehicle parked in the driveway. After speaking with the man, the officers believed that the man was drunk, and behind the wheel, having control of is car. Under law, you may not have care and control of his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further breath tests.
Officers learned that the man was not to be driving as a result of several previous suspensions, and that he was also currently bound by conditions not to purchase, possess or consume alcohol.
54-year-old Bradley Handsor, of Bush Line, Dover Centre has been charged with having a blood alcohol limit exceeding the legal limit, two counts of failing to comply, and five counts of driving while disqualified. Handsor was released pending a future court date.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all drivers that they do not need to be actually driving or operating their vehicle to be charged with drinking and driving offences in Canada. It is possible to be charged and convicted should they be found in care and control of their vehicle. This is due to the risk of an intoxicated person losing their judgement and operating a vehicle they have care or control of.
