Chatham man in critical condition after accident

Just after 3:30 p.m. emergency crews rushed to Grand Avenue West near Wood Street in Chatham in response to a serious accident involving an Infiniti car and a Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the Dodge Ram was travelling westbound on Grand Avenue and the Infiniti was travelling eastbound when it attempted to turn left into a parking lot. The Dodge Ram struck the passenger side of the Infiniti causing major damage to both vehicles.

The 49-year-old male driver of the Dodge Ram was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.

The 56-year-old driver of the Infiniti had to be extricated from the vehicle and suffered life threatening injuries. He was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, and then later by ambulance to a hospital in Windsor where he remains in critical condition.

Both men live in Chatham. The damage of collision is estimated at $50,000.
