Stolen laptop takes picture of thief, man arrested

A man who stole a laptop on King Street West, didn’t count on the laptop fighting back.

On Sunday, November 4, police were called about a theft of a laptop from a residence. The stolen laptop had tracking software installed that not only indicated where the laptop was in Chatham but also provided a photograph of the man using the computer. A photograph was taken remotely by the computer’s webcam and sent to the victim’s iPhone.

Police identified the man using the laptop and shortly after 11:00 p.m. Monday night, the thief was located near Gray Street and Queen Street in Chatham. Sherdon Baker, 23-years-old of Winterline Road in Dover Township, has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released and has a court date on November 27.
