Remnants of hurricane Sandy to hit CK on Monday

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services advises that Environment Canada predicts that the remnants of Hurricane Sandy are expected to reach Ontario on October 29, 2012.

Estimates of 25-50 mm of rain with as much as 75 mm in some areas and winds of 50-70 km/h gusting in some areas to 100 km/h are now forecasted across southern Ontario, likely reaching their peak during the evening of October 29.

The Sarnia area potentially receiving the strongest winds from the storm. Local flooding and power outages are the main risks associated with this event. Residents in areas likely to be affected are advised to prepare for severe weather, consult their local weather forecasts and exercise caution.

“All residents should monitor this storm very closely by listening to the local radio stations and visiting the Environment Canada website for immediate updates” said Alan DeVillaer, Coordinator of Emergency Management/Emergency Medical Services. “We encourage everyone to prepare a 72 hour emergency kit and have emergency supplies in their home”.
