Merlin fire still under investigation

Saturday October 6 2012

By Craig Hendry

A fire at Maris Technical in Merlin last night is still under investigation after the fire destroyed the historic building.

The fire was reported just after 11:00 p.m. on Friday where Maris Technical was fully involved with fire. Heavy flames and smoke were shooting through the roof and windows, and threatened two other properties on either side.Firefighters managed to save neighbour’s house, as well as another business on the opposite side of the building.

The roof collapsed, and the walls left standing were weak so firefighters brought in heavy equipment to knock down the remaining walls.

The blaze is still being investigated and the cause has yet to be determined.

The building that houses Maris Technical is a complete loss, and total damage estimates of all buildings involved is set at $200,000.

There were no injuries reported.

Thank you Jennifer. It’s a real shame, the loss of the building. Hopefully they can rebuild. Thank goodness the fire station is just around the corner, they put a stop to the fire taking the house next door.
