Vandalism at CKHA helipad could cost a life

The ongoing problem was first discovered in May. Fixture lights and marker lights have been broken at the federally regulated airfield on Grand Ave. W. Ornge pilots are not permitted to land at the hospital without the lights working. Instead of landing in Chatham a helicopter must be re-routed to another facility, causing a delay before a patient can get the proper care. As these are always emergency situations it is only a matter of time before someone dies because of the vandalism.

Please report any suspicious activity around the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and call police immediately.

Anyone with information about any previous damage is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
