Justin Kozlof, who was arrested for manslaughter in the death of his three week old son Kavan in November 2010, and then had charges stayed last June only to be re-arrested 11 months later for the same charge, has been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to a six year prison term. His sentence was reduced by two months for time he already spent in jail, as he has been in custody since May 6.
The infant was born on October 26 died on November 18 when Kozlof was originally arrested along with his wife for manslaughter, stunning the community. Charges were stayed by the Crown against Kozlof and dropped for his wife on June 28, 2011. The Crown had 12 months to lay the charge again or drop the case.
Kavan Howard Riddell-Kozlof died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and was cremated.
