Retraction by the Chatham-Kent police

By: Greg Holden

Below is a news release that the Chatham-Kent police provided members of the news media, about a story reported in the CKReview.

Last Thursday the CKReview reported an arrest had been made in a case where a Wallaceburg taxi driver was attacked. The attack was so severe that the OPP have called it an attempted murder. The driver had to be airlifted to a London hospital intensive care unit. The story announcing the arrest in the CKReview had been based on a news release made by the CKPS. After the CKReview posted a link to the story on the police website, mention of the arrest in the taxi driver case was removed by the CKPS without retraction.

Today the CKPS officially retracted the story that was published.

On Thursday, July 12, 2021 the Chatham Kent Police Service released a news item stating that a 25-year-old man was arrested and turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police in relation to an ongoing OPP assault investigation involving a cab driver from Wallaceburg.  Regrettably the wording of the release has caused some confusion and therefore has been removed from the Chatham Kent Police Service website.

Police continue to seek the person(s) responsible for this offence.  Anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this crime should immediately contact the Walpole Island Police Service at (519) 627-6011 or the Lambton County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
