Get spun at the Ridge House Museum

Once again, with spring comes the opening of the Ridge House Museum for the season. This year, Get Spun with our latest temporary exhibit on the history of yarn spinning. From hand spindles to walking wheels, this interactive exhibit is designed to introduce you to the exciting world of spinning.

The oldest tools for spinning were rocks and sticks used to twist a length of yarn between the fingers. Over the years hand spindles became more sophisticated. They eventually became spinning wheels that increased the production of yarns. Although the industrial revolution eventually lead to the demise of hand spinning as a necessity, the art of spinning lives on today with many people enjoying the craft.

Get Spun: A brief history of spinning will be open in the exhibit gallery of the Ridge House Museum from March 20 to June 24, 2012. For more information, or to book a group tour, phone 519-674-2223, email ckridgehouse@chatham-kent.ca, or stop in at the museum, located at53 Erie Street South in Ridgetown, open daily 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
