Habs claim former Laker

By Ian Kennedy, CKSN

Former Wallaceburg Lakers defenseman Brad Staubitz was claimed off waivers yesterday by the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

Staubitz, who played for Wallaceburg Lakers in 2000-2001, was claimed by Montreal after being assigned by the Minnesota Wild to the AHL. Staubitz’s 2000-2001 Lakers were eliminated by the Belle River Canadiens 4-0 in the Great Lakes Junior C Final.

Staubitz has played 43 games with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild this season, failing to register a point. In 196 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild, Staubitz has collected 8 goals and 10 assists, along with 473 penalty minutes.

Known more for his quick feet and offensive ability in minor hockey and junior as a defenseman, Staubitz was converted to an enforcer who plays the wing at the professional level.

The Montreal Canadiens currently sit last in the Eastern Conference.
